Homemade Butter And Jam

I recently bought this cute little book called Green Princess Cookbook and in it, it had the recipe to make homemade butter. Since it is a really simple recipe and a great learning opportunity for him, I let Luke make some. He loved it so much that he flipped through the book, found the jam recipe and decided he wanted to make some strawberry jam too. So we did!

First he chilled a mason jar and two marbles. Then he put the marbles in the jar along with some heavy whipping cream and shook shook shook! After a bit it thickened up and Whala! He had butter!
Then he poured it out into a strainer. He took out the marbles and rinsed the butter with cool water. He took the butter out of the strainer and then patted it dry with a paper towel. Momma helped him add some salt to taste and then he enjoyed his creation!
For the jam, he mashed all the strawberries with raw sugar. Momma did all the cooking (don't want any lil' burned fingers!)He was the perfect taste tester!
Yum! Homemade strawberry jam! Out of two pints, we are already down to less than half a jar. It's only been a bit over a week!
